Simple axel and wheel :

The wheel and axle is a type of simple machine used to make tasks easier in terms of manipulating force by applying the concept of mechanical advantage. The wheel and axle consists of a round disk, known as a wheel, with a rod through the centre of it, known as the axle.

Everyday examples of this type of wheel and axle include:

  • Screwdriver.
  • Drill.
  • Windmill.
  • Water wheel.
  • Doorknob.
  • Pizza cutter.
  • Skateboard.

Differential axel and wheel :

The wheel and differential axle are secured to a shaft that runs in bearings within a sturdy wall mounting bracket. The necessary cords and Load hangers are provided and weights are included. The three pulleys are fixed together to form a compound pulley.

Wheel and axle uses include lifting heavy objects, moving people quickly, and moving parts of a complex machine. There are two basic types of wheel and axle simple machines.

Worm and worm wheel :

Worm drive Worm wheel. The worm wheel, also known as the worm gear, is simplistically a helical gear that matches the pitch, pressure angle, and helix angle of the worm. The significant difference between a worm gear and a helical gear is the throat.

Worm drives are used as the tuning mechanism for many musical instruments, including guitars, double basses, mandolins, bouzoukis, and many banjos (although most high-end banjos use planetary gears or friction pegs). A worm drive tuning device is called a machine head.

Examples of worm wheel applications include speed reducers, elevators, machine tools, chain blocks, fishing reels and automotive power steering.

simple screw jack:

A screw jack is a simple machine. It is used to lift cars or heavy automobiles. It consists of a long screw rod which passes through a threaded block B and a handle . The distance between two consecutive thread is known as pitch of screw.

screw jack is an example of a power screw in which a small force applied in a horizontal plane is used to raise or lower a large load. The principle on which it works is similar to that of an inclined plane. The mechanical advantage of a screw jack is the ratio of the load applied to the effort applied.

Some examples of the uses of a screw are in a jar lid, a drill, a bolt, a light bulb, faucets, bottle caps and ball point pens. Circular stairways are also a form of a screw.
